Evaporative cooling vests for dogs offer a safe and effective way to help regulate their body temperature, especially during hot weather or physical activity. These vests utilize the principle of evaporative cooling, similar to how humans sweat, to draw heat away from the dog's body as water evaporates from the vest. This helps prevent overheating and reduces the risk of heat-related illnesses like heatstroke.

An evaporative cooling vest works by using the natural process of evaporation to draw heat away from the body, thus lowering the wearer's core temperature.

The vest is made out of a material that utilizes evaporative cooling technology. Simply put: as the water evaporates, it cools the body.

 How to take measurements:

While we are in the early phases of custom sewing each individual vest, please contact me for more information.

Measurement 1:

Circumference around the widest part of your dog’s head (typically around the ears). Because the vest slips over your dog’s head, we need to make sure the opening is wide enough to slip over.

Measurement 2:

Length of your dog’s back from the base of the neck (generally where a collar would sit) to the start of the tail). This measurement will be the length of the vest; so if you would like it to not cover the entire back, please measure accordingly.

Measurement 3:

Circumference around the widest/deepest part of your dog’s chest behind the shoulders. Because each dog has a different body type based upon breed, we try to ensure the vest is the most accurate fit around your dog’s body.

Overheating, Heat Exhaustion, Heat Stroke:

While evaporative cooling vests may help regulate body temperature and reduce the risk of overheating, proper precautions need to be taken, always. Different breeds, ages, activities, and weather conditions should be taken very seriously, and first-aid education is of utmost importance when dealing with heat related emergencies. Before your dog participates in any activity, it is always best to consult your vet.

 How to use & Activate

  1. Remove your K9 EvapoVest from the plastic and soak in warm water to activate for up to five minutes. Wring it out! Place in cool or ice water for an extra chill to the touch!

  2. To maximize the effectiveness of the evaporative cooling vest, ensure it's thoroughly wet, then wring out excess water, and snap to activate. Snap or shake: This helps separate the fibers, allowing for better airflow and quicker evaporation

  3. Rehydrate the vest as needed

  4. Consider airflow! Position the vest and use a fan where air can circulate around it, promoting evaporation!

  5. AVOID FREEZING THE VEST!

  6. We recommend supervising your pet during the use of this product, especially young dogs.

Storage:

  1. You may store your vest in a container, as air-drying may cause over-hardening. If you do choose to air dry, simply reactivate before use.

  2. Delicately hand wash with mild detergent when needed.

 K9 EvapoVest Faq:

  1. Can the K9 EvapoVest be worn during activity?

    While the vest can be worn during activity, our recommendation is to utilize the vest afterwards to help cool the body down. Combining with airflow, wind, or a fan is best to maximize cooling

  2. Can I clip my leash directly to the K9 EvapoVest?

    No. At this time, the design of our vest does not allow for a leash to be clipped directly to it. The material is best suited for evaporative cooling vs. serving as a functional harness for walking. We would recommend use of the vest post-activity or post-walking.

  3. What determines the price difference amongst the different vests?

    Prices may vary, even on the same size vests, due to some vest colors being challenging to come by, or requiring more sheets of material. The fabric our vests are made out of are typically used in niche applications; and therefore it is not widely available to consumers or stocked in typical fabric stores. There is only a small number of textile mills producing this fabric and it is not mass-market like what you may see some other cooling vests made out of.

  4. Does evaporative cooling work on fur?
    Yes, evaporative cooling can work on fur, especially in hot, dry climates. The wet fabric evaporates and cools the animal’s body. However, high humidity can hinder the evaporation process. A fan is recommended if you choose to utilize the vest after activity in more humid climates.

  5. Does humidity and environment matter?
    Evaporative cooling is most effective in hot, dry climates where the air can readily absorb moisture. In humid environments, the air is already saturated with water vapor, and the cooling effect is diminished.
