Sutherland General Store - Lynne is the owner
Address: 11875 Collier Blvd, Golden Gate, FL 34116
She can assist you with feeding ideas, chews, leashes, collars. I am not sure if she carries leather leashes (I ordered mine, but you may find another leash you like).
- Flat buckle collar
-4-6ft leash
-small, easy to eat training treats
Lynne said she will be there tomorrow 8-1 and Saturday 8-6. I am not sure about next week but I did ask her.
Other supplies:
- Crate (I would get the wire crate with the divider so you can make it the size you need, but the dog will not outgrow it
- Bowls
- Bed/blanket (you may just want to use towels in the beginning)
- Martingale collar (wait on this we want to size it properly and won't need it immediately)
- I would also consider a first aid kit and including hydrogen peroxide to have on hand (I can explain when I see you but good to have if your puppy eats something it shouldn't and you need to induce vomiting).
- I would have an old blanket/sheet/crate cover to cover the crate (may or may not be needed or utilized but generally puppies like a den-like space).
Right now, off the top of my head this is what I can think of. No need to go too crazy.
Here is a video you may enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTc1HaxTNrI Everything is 8 weeks to 12 weeks or so, maybe 13 weeks. It will give you a better idea of the things in terms of training we are looking for.
-surface exposure/desensitizing/things that move, etc
-crate training
-noise exposure/environment exposure
-toy drive
-exposure to agility equipment (I compete my dog)
- exposure to rain/wet grass
-body awareness
-release cue out of crate/impulse control
-impulse control with food
-focus work/engagement
-basic sequencing and handler focus
-heel position on my side
-sit/stay
-greeting other dogs (controlled, no dog parks)
-resource guarding/trading objects
-cuing driving to crate on command
-loose leash walking
-distractions
Part 2: 14-18 weeks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTyz1VrozVc
-body awareness
-more crate training
-heel position
-front end awareness on his own
-impulse control
-stay/off lease behaviors
-toy drive
-recall
-auto sits in heel
-tricks/engagement/hand touches
-sending to bed/mat/place/holding position
-intro to surfaces, things (water)
-agility
-conditioning/shaping (shaping is the dog figuring it out themselves)
-rear end awareness
-wrapping objects
-sending and increasing distance
- backing up
-get it/give it
He was worked with probably 6-7 times per day for the first 6-7, maybe 8 months of his life. He is now 5.5 years old so you can see by the time your dog is 6-8 months you can have a lot of basic behaviors you would be looking for. Everything was positive reinforcement with food, toy, praise. However, keep in mind this was very, very, very consistent and diligent work.
I hope this helps!
